A train broke down in the middle of a field in Germany in 1995. We thought we heard the announcer say, "Techniken Defunkus." (We were wrong.) Upon returning to the United States that seemed the only possible name for an 'electronic blues band' embracing chance, malfunctions, sound design, jazz, and even a little bit of dancing.
